Chris Kelley
Assistant Defensive Backs Coach/JV Assistant
Chris Kelley, a two-sport standout at McMurry University, will join McMurry's football staff as the assistant secondary coach. Kelley played football three seasons and lettered in track twice where he was a two-time national champion and helped McMurry's men's track program earn the first team national title in school history in 2008.
Kelley compiled 103 tackles and 9.0 tackles for a loss in his three-year career at cornerback for McMurry. His senior season was his best statistically as he had 45 tackles (28 solo) and had 7.5 tackles for a loss. He also forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and broke up two passes.
On the track he was part of the 2007 4X100 meter relay team that won the national title at the NCAA Division III Outdoor meet in Oshkosh, Wisc. Then, in 2008 the team of Kelley, Hann Ollison, Bert Green and John Mikalik repeated as champions in the 4X100-meter relay and went on to win the team national championship.
Kelley also is a part of the 4X200-meter relay team that holds a school record. He along with Mikalik, Ollison, and Green set the school record with a time of 1:25.69 at the McMurry Twilight in 2007 at Wilford Moore Stadium.
In high school, Kelley played three years of football for DeSoto High School and was a four-year letterwinner in track. He competed alongside NFL stars Tatum Bell and Ellis Hobbs in both football and track and field.
Kelley, 24, lives in Abilene.
