Chris Ruybal
Linebackers Coach/JV Coach
Chris Ruybal will coach linebackers for McMurry University in 2009 joining head coach Hal Mumme from New Mexico State University.
Ruybal began his coaching career at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo. from 2003-2006 where he served as an assistant coach. He helped Adams State's defense to the best total defense in the nation among NCAA Division II schools in 2003.
In 2004, Adams State posted a 7-4 overall record and tied for second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 6-2 mark against league competition. The team followed with two more winning seasons in 2005 and 2006 with 6-5 records in each year.
From there, Ruybal moved to New Mexico State University where he joined Mumme's staff for two seasons. He served as a graduate assistant while attaining his master's degree in business administration and sports marketing. He graduated with his postgraduate degree in December of 2007. He was also the director of quality control for the Aggies.
Ruybal graduated from Alamosa High School in Alamosa, Colo. He is a veteran of the United States Army. His father, Chris Sr., is the assistant women's basketball coach at Alamosa High School.
In addition to coaching linebackers at McMurry, Ruybal directs advertising for the football program. He also serves as the junior varsity head coach for McMurry's freshmen.
Ruybal, 36, lives in Abilene.
