Cammie Petree
Head Volleyball Coach
Cammie Petree enters her 14th season leading the McMurry volleyball program in 2009. Her tenure at McMurry has come in three different terms. She began her career with two seasons as head coach from 1984-85 then returned for 10 seasons from 1996-2005. She re-took the reigns in April of 2008 and over her 13-year collegiate coaching career, she's posted a 210-159 record.
Since joining the American Southwest Conference in 1996, Petree has coached 24 all-conference players and 36 academic all-conference selections. In addition, in 2008, she saw her first player ever earn all-America honors when Terah Brown was an honorable mention AVCA all-American
Under her direction, McMurry won the ASC title in 1997 where her squad was a perfect 12-0 in conference play. Since then, McMurry won the ASC West Division title in both 1998 and 2002.
In 2008, Petree reached a milestone win by picking up No. 200 in Round Rock against Concordia-Texas Sept. 21. The team went on to finish 19-8 and before East Texas Baptist ousted them in the first round of the ASC Postseason Tournament.
Petree had originally left the program following in the spring of 2006 to spend more time with her family. However, she said that it was her family that aided in her decision to return to her alma mater.
“I want our program to be successful on and off the court,” she said. “I want to continue the winning traditions that we had established and I’d love to win another conference championship. I think it’s about time we do that again. I want our program to be one that both the McMurry and Abilene community can be proud of.”
Petree was a three-sport standout at McMurry in basketball, track and volleyball. As a volleyball player she was a four-time all-conference selection and was named NAIA all-region. She graduated in 1983 and is a member of McMurry’s Athletic Hall of Honor when she was inducted in 2006.
Petree has two children: Megan (17) and Austin (8). She and her husband, Richard, live in View.
