Veronica Snow
Head Women's Basketball Coach

Veronica Snow enters her second year as the McMurry women’s head basketball coach with high expectations for her program.  In Snow’s first year at the helm, she guided the McMurry women to a 25-5 record and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament where eventual national champion Howard Payne knocked them out.  McMurry’s 25 wins last year was the second-highest season win total in school history and McMurry’s opening-round victory over Trinity in the NCAA Tournament was McMurry’s first tournament win since 2000.

During her first year as head coach Snow also helped develop the game of record-setting post player Tarra Richardson, the most decorated women’s basketball player to ever go through McMurry.  Richardson, who was a five-time all-American during her college career, made two all-American teams her senior season under the direction of Snow.  Richardson was also awarded the Josten’s Trophy – the most prestigious award in NCAA Division III women’s basketball that recognizes an outstanding athlete of the year for DIII basketball.

While Richardson graduated last May and exhausted her eligibility, many key cogs return from last year’s squad including senior all-conference performers Amber Horton and Allison Nelson.  In total, 12 players return from last year’s squad including six players who received significant playing time.  Snow also added three newcomers who should come in and see playing time right away.  With the combination of key returners and ready-to-play newcomers, Snow has aspirations of winning an American Southwest title and returning to the NCAA Tournament.

Coach Snow was named the sixth women's basketball coach in school history May 7, 2007, returning after a six-year absence from McMurry when she served as an assistant coach. Snow spent five seasons as an assistant to former head coach Sam Nichols. During those five years, Snow helped guide the Lady Indians to a 79-50 record and was a part of McMurry’s only trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2000.

She also served as McMurry's senior woman’s administrator and the assistant to the athletic director. During the 2000 season, McMurry set a then-school record for 24 wins and had only five losses. During her stint as an assistant coach at McMurry, Snow helped develop several all-conference players including Ogonna Merritt, who was also an all-American.

Snow's academic resume is extremely impressive.  Snow received an associate’s degree at Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz., before earning a bachelors degree at Hardin-Simmons University in 1987.  She followed with a master’s degree in 2000 in sports and recreation management from HSU.  Most recently, she earned her doctorate of sports management in the summer of 2006 from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala.

Prior to taking over as head women’s basketball coach at McMurry, Snow spent six years at Hardin-Simmons where she was an assistant professor of fitness and sports sciences. Her head coaching experience came at the high school level from 1993-1996 where she served Merkel High School as the girls’ varsity basketball coach. She was also an assistant under Nichols at Abilene High School from 1987-1993.
