McMurry’s track teams are still kicking with just a few days before the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in Oshkosh, Wisc. McMurry competed across town at Abilene Christian’s Twilight meet Thursday and several set or upped their provisional marks for the outdoor championships.

Hann Ollison ran the fastest time in the nation in the 400-meter race with a remarkable 46.50 seconds time. Ollison’s next best competition in division III is Matthew Harden, who ran a 47.28 for Illinois Wesleyan April 18 at the Wheaton Twilight.

Ollison is already an automatic qualifier in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 4X100-meter relay, 4X400-meter relay, and he is the only automatic qualifier so far in 2008 for the long jump. So the junior standout from Colorado City will have some decisions to make in what events to compete in once the nationals roll around May 22-24.

It took 10 meets, but the McMurry women’s 4X100-meter relay team set a provisional mark with a time of 48.30 seconds. The provisional standard for the event is 48.65 seconds.

Holly Rollins, the freshman pole vault standout, jumped 12 feet and six inches Thursday bumping her qualifying mark and ranking her fourth in the nation for marks posted in the 2008 season thus far. Rollins is just a quarter of an inch shy of an automatic qualifying mark with one meet to go before nationals.

Breanna Anderson-dusted several NCAA Division II competitors in the long jump Thursday with a mark of 18-07.25. That jumps ranks her ninth in the nation and provides her with her first provisional mark in that event. Anderson Burton has already provisionally qualified in the triple jump this season and holds the seventh best mark in that event.

John Mikalik provisionally qualified in the 400-meter race with a time of 48.34 giving him the 17th best time in the nation in 2008.

Saturday, May 3, Ken Wheeler competed individually at a meet at UT-Arlington and broke McMurry’s 9-year old school record in the 5,000-meter race. Wheeler’s time of 15:37.54 narrowly edged Josh Hufstedler’s mark of 15:38.00 set in 2000.

McMurry will compete at the University of North Texas in Denton Thursday in its final meet before outdoor nationals.
